Contemporary Northwest artist, Sarah Goodnough, uses Astoria, Oregon's scenic riverfront and salmon fishing history as inspiration for many of her paintings. Of all the Oregon hotels the Cannery Pier Hotel is proud to have Sarah Goodnough the featured artist.
Goodnough creates vibrant paintings that highlight the splendor of nature with expressive renderings of salmon and riverscapes. Playful, tranquil, mysterious, energetic... her paintings evoke an array of moods as she translates the natural world into redefined realities of color and design.
Goodnough is also responsible for the Cannery Pier Hotel's interior design. The hotel's interiors reflect her juxtaposition of color and texture, from the bedspread fabrics, furniture and fixtures, to interior paint colors. Her work illuminates the lobby, corridors and rooms, creating a warm, yet elegant atmosphere. Goodnough's paintings celebrate the hotel's historical location at the mouth of the Mighty Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. Her extensive study of the canneries and Astoria's history has allowed her to create, not just an outstanding boutique hotel, but an interpretive fishing and canning history of the bygone days of Astoria's past.
Her art work is shown and available for sale in the Cannery Pier Hotel's public areas and gift shop. Goodnough's paintings also hang for purchase in the Red Building, Baked Alaska and other establishments throughout the North Coast. Goodnough can be contacted directly through her website at www.sarahgoodnough.com.
