The Cannery Pier Hotel is a GREAT PLACE to stay that we lucked into on our Astoria trip! They are pet friendly and have outstanding facilities and service! Sara-Bella ( our Pomeranian) even got her own basket of complimentary goodies!!! The freighters and barges go right by your window and the hotel provides a list of ships coming in and going out. There is a fireplace and a claw foot tub that add to the experience. The staff could not have been nicer! Very Kool!!!

Hello Don,
It is not often that I take the time to sit down and write a note giving feedback about much of anything now and days. It seems as though most places you go to have a very C grade customer service attitude. Fine is just that...fine. I have worked in the service industry for over 20 years myself and have never felt that fine is fine.
That brings me to your hotel. My husband and I spent last Saturday and Sunday nights at the Hotel. It was our first time going away just the two of us for more than an overnight by ourselves in 12 years. Needless to say, we were hoping to have a fabulous time in the short time alotted. We could not have picked a better destination.
From the moment we checked in till the moment we checked out, we felt every bit the important person and pampered guest that we had hoped for. The room was simply stunning. The view of the river from every place in the room was just fantastic. After getting settled we went down for the lovely wine, cheese and lox reception where we also took the opportunity to make dinner reservations and sign up for the chauffeur service to our destination. What luxury being driven to dinner and having David waiting for us after we had finished! It was truly my husbands favorite part of the weekend. He loved the car!
All of your staff went above and beyond for us, and there was always a feeling of calm and joy in the main areas of the Hotel. We also very much enjoyed the mini museum on the 2nd floor. It is always lovely to see history in such a wonderful way.
I have not stopped talking about our trip with friends and colleagues. We will happily return to your fine establishment at some point and continue to sing its praises to anyone who will listen.
Thank you for putting the A+ back into Customer Service.
Best,
Heather Scheer

My wife and I brought our staff and their spouses for an overnight retreat to your hotel on Friday December 5th, our way of celebrating Christmas with them. I want to say thank you to all there at your facility.
The hotel is exceptionally clean, well appointed with details well attended to. The rooms are very comfortable and have the amenities that are appreciated.
From the moment we arrived until the time we left every member of your staff was polite, helpful and gracious to all, from check-in to helping to arrange dinner reservations and transportation.
I am sure members of my staff as well as my wife and I will return for stays in the future.

Don, I wanted to tell you about our stay at your hotel on 11/28-11/29. My wife and I really enjoyed your staff, rooms, and view. We have been telling all our friends about it. If they are looking for an out of the way, quite place to relax this is one of them. The weather, mist and fog added to the romance. We enjoyed the passing ships in the river. We dined at the Silver Salmon on a wonderful meal. Thank You again.

Astoria, and the Cannery Pier in particular, was a high point of our trip to Oregon in October. Jeff Hoagland took great care of us. He's terrific! And thank you so much for those gifts. I was especially taken with the book FINS, FINNS AND ASTORIANS, and the Josephson's salmon. We spoke favorably about your hotel to people in the hotels in Portland -- and in our updated review.
That review probably won't be up on our sites for a few months, since the editors have thousands of reviews to edit of hotels in cities throughout the world. Our editor did email us her delight at the quality of our Oregon reviews.
Thank you again for our stay at the marvelous Cannery Pier, one of the more special hotels that we have had the privilege to review.
All the best,

We were recommended by a co-worker to visit the Cannery Pier Hotel and we must say that the staff is excellent, friendly and helpful and we especially love the snacks and breakfast.

We came up from Yachats to see Astoria and stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel. The room design, views and staff are simply the best. I can honestly say that this is the best experience we have ever had.

Dear Mr. West:
I wanted to commend you for having such an outstanding staff. Each person has such wonderful customer service skills.
Jeff is an outstanding worker. He always helps me whenever I need my account to be zeroed out. He managed to find me a room so I did not need to check out. That in it self kept me from changing hotels for a whole week. He has a positive attitude and outstanding personality.
I am sorry I do not recall everyone's name but I can mention a few. Whenever Kathleen sees me she always greets me with "hi Linda." That makes me feel like I am not just a guest.
One night I mentioned to Sally that I wanted to see a particular ship. She was not sure if I had missed it. Later she called my room to let me know the ship was on its way. Wow that was nice!
Jamie always makes sure I have everything I need. She is sweet and considerate. Dave is awesome. He is very professional, continuously helps both staff and guests. It is evident that your staff likes working at the hotel it shows in their attitudes.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for your generous hospitality. I have stayed in various 4 & 5 star hotels but I can honestly say that this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Your staff treated me like family and I have let all of my friends and co-workers know what a terrific hotel you have.
Hope to see you in the future, (when I am on vacation of course).
Sincerely,

Well I don't know if ultimate is the correct word, but if you are interested in a romantic date with a bike loving(or someone you would like to be bike loving) significant other, read on.
I'll add more info and photos to this post in the next few days.
The Cannery Pier hotel in Astoria sits right on top of the Columbia River and is unique for a few reasons.
1. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They will go out of their way to make things pleasant for you. This has held true in the 5 times we have stayed there.
2. It is actually built on a pier, so you are over the water.
3. There is a 5 mile paved bike path that runs from the entrance of the hotel down the river, through historic Astoria.
4. They provide complimentary wine, salmon and crackers every evening.
5. They have a fleet of cruiser bikes that are there at no charge for you to use.
6. If it's pouring down rain, or if you aren't bike inclined they have an 1939 Buick that they will take you into town and then pick you back up when you are done- also complimentary.
7. They are under the Astoria bridge, at the high point, so the big barges come right by your hotel window. Very cool
8. They have all kinds of history to check out. Both in book form and wall art. Not only is it a place to spend the night, but if you are into history at all, it's a great place to just hang out and learn some stuff.

And, speaking of the "best"... my husband and I stayed at Cannery Pier Hotel in Astoria two weekends ago. What an outstanding property! The hotel is subtly elegant with balconies right over the water, the staff was great and their shuttle service for guests (in a vintage Rolls Royce) was delightful. They also have bicycles for their guests (no charge), host a wine reception in the evening and serve a very nice continental breakfast (all included with your stay). If I was rating the hotel on a scale of one to ten, I would have to say "twelve."

…Mary said her 59th birthday was her best ever. We spent the night at the Cannery Pier Hotel (Astoria, Oregon), a new high end hotel built over the Columbia River. It was absolutely the best. They knew it was Mary's birthday … we walked into the room with the fire place burning, and a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne on a table. The room was so perfect and beautifully done. The bathroom area was deluxe and the Columbia River and bridge from the viewpoint was simply outstanding. The big ships coming and going would steam right behind the hotel. You could even watch them pass while sitting in the big claw foot soaking tub.
We could have been driven in their vintage Rolls Royce anywhere in town to eat, but Mary didn't feel like going out….That was the best hotel stay we've ever had. We did not want to leave and stayed right up until check-out time….

We arrived in the fog … and awoke to a brilliant blue sky and a gargantuan freighter going by.
It is one of the most remarkable locations for a hotel that I've visited (and I have traveled a lot!). The Staff was outstanding …
I have been raving to everyone about the Cannery Pier!

Don-
I just wanted to write to tell you and your staff how much I enjoyed staying at the Cannery Pier Hotel!
It was exactly as I expected it to be- flawlessly designed and terrifically staffed!!!
The rooms, in my opinion, are some of the best in the Pacific Northwest and I can not wait until I can return!
You and Lori were wonderfully accommodating and I look forward to seeing you both again in the future!
Have a terrific holiday season-
Sincerely,

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful new hotel for our 1st year anniversary and it was simply magical. What a joy for Astoria…A hotel on the water…how romantic!
We stayed in a beautiful suite at the Cannery Pier Hotel with hardwood floor, a gas fireplace, a refrigerator, microwave and many windows to see the beautiful views…The bed was so comfortable and the soft Terrycloth robes were so nice and such a special touch…My favorite was the soaking tub over-looking the water….Very beautiful and romantic.
All in all, the BEST hotel in Astoria! Finally a first class hotel for Astoria…YEA!

We stayed in the CPH for three nights and enjoyed every moment. The rooms are large, well-appointed and quite comfortable. The view from every room is spectacular -- looking out on the Columbia River as it flows into the Pacific Ocean. We enjoyed morning coffee in the lobby, watching the shipping traffic and a cruise large boat (NCL) docking nearby. It's a very quiet setting, no traffic noise at all and excellent soundproofing between rooms. The bridge over the river to Washington is only 200 yds away but high enough that no noise at all reaches the room; it's just a great part of the scenery. The staff is helpful and well-attuned to customer service. Astoria is a fun town, with galleries and good restaurants; the Urban Cafe is especially good for tasty and imaginative food, atmosphere and service. Astoria is a town worth visiting and the CPH is a hotel that deserves to succeed; they get everything right.

Wow! Words can't describe our wonderful November 11th stay at Cannery Pier Hotel. This place is currently ranked #2 on [the Trip Advisor] website for Astoria, my prediction is that it will be #1. The hotel has been open for thirteen weeks and the rooms are superb. What a view! The ships seem so close going by that you could shout hello to them from your balcony. We loved the window seat, binoculars, fireplace, king size bed, and clawfoot bathtub (with a water view!) Especially nice was the wine and appetizers and continental breakfast. We had planned to explore Astoria, but decided just to stay and enjoy this wonderful hotel. We will certainly be back and will tell all our friends about this great find.
